E komo mai" (welcome) to Maui, where there's plenty of "ho'okipa" (hospitality) for families with "keiki" (children). Whether you're looking to relax on the "mokupuni" (island) or go on an "holoholo" (adventure), Maui has something for everyone in the "ohana" (family). Here are ten "kākou" (our) favorite family-friendly activities on Maui that are sure to make your "keiki" smile!

  1. Explore the Maui Ocean Center - This is a fantastic aquarium that showcases the incredible marine life found in Hawaiian waters. Kids will love getting up close to sharks, sea turtles, and colorful tropical fish. There are also interactive exhibits and a touch pool where kids can learn about and touch sea creatures.
  2. Take a hike in Iao Valley State Park - This park features a lush rainforest valley with a scenic lookout point that offers stunning views of the Iao Needle, a natural rock formation. The park has several easy hiking trails suitable for families, with options for longer or shorter hikes depending on your preference.
  3. Visit the Sugar Beach - This is one of Maui's longest beaches, with miles of soft white sand perfect for playing and building sandcastles. The beach has calm waters that are great for swimming and boogie boarding, and there are plenty of shady areas to relax under the trees.
  4. Learn to surf - Maui is one of the best places in the world to learn how to surf, and there are several surf schools that offer lessons for families. Kids as young as 5 years old can learn to surf with experienced instructors who will ensure everyone has a fun and safe experience.
  5. Go on a whale watching tour - Maui is famous for its humpback whales, which migrate to the island's waters from December to May each year. Whale watching tours offer a unique opportunity to see these majestic creatures up close and learn about their behaviors and habitat from knowledgeable guides.
  6. Take a road trip to Hana - This scenic drive takes you along Maui's rugged east coast, with stunning ocean views, waterfalls, and lush rainforest scenery along the way. Visit the Maui Tropical Plantation - This working plantation offers guided tours where you can learn about the many fruits and plants grown on Maui, including coffee, pineapple, and macadamia nuts.
